Carmel wins in double OT

Carmel needed to bounce back from consecutive losses, and the Greyhounds did that in dramatic fashion Friday night at Carmel Stadium.
The Class 6A No. 9 ‘Hounds fought off Pike in double overtime, 45-44. The score was tied at 31-31 at the end of regulation. The Red Devils went first, with Anthony Ciadella throwing a 10-yard touchdown pass to Zavier Simpson.
Carmel matched Pike on the next play, as Baron Smith ran the ball in from 10 yards to score. The ‘Hounds got the ball first in the double overtime, and Nick Beidl came through with a seven-yard passing touchdown from Zach Osborne. Cialdella and Simpson teamed up for another 10-yard touchdown pass for the Red Devils, but they went for two and could not convert that pass.
The Greyhounds led 31-10 at one point during the third quarter. Osborne connected on three passing touchdowns: One to Daniel Mullins in the second quarter, and two to Parker, a nine-yarder with under a minute left in the first half and a 30-yard throw late in the third.
Parker got Carmel on the board and erased an early 7-0 deficit with a nine-yard TD run late in the first. Hanna, who kicked all six extra points, also made a field goal midway through the third. Pike tied the game in the fourth quarter with two touchdowns.
Osborne rushed for 72 yards, while Jordan Jones gained 70 yards. Osborne finished the game 8-of-17 through the air for 117 yards, with Parker making four catches.
The Greyhounds are 1-1 in the MIC and 2-2 overall. Carmel goes on the road for its next two games, playing at Lawrence North next Friday.
