Boys tennis: Tigers win close Mudsock dual

The Fishers boys tennis team edged out Hamilton Southeastern 3-2 to win a very close dual meet Tuesday at the Royals’ courts.
The match came down to No. 2 singles, where the Tigers’ Nic Rasmusson and Southeastern’s Rohan Golla were involved in a tight three-set match. Rasmusson won 6-4 in the third set, which clinched the Mudsock trophy for Fishers. The two players split 7-5 sets, with Rasmusson winning the first set and Golla taking the second set.
“The last few years, it’s come down to a third-setter like this every time,” said Tigers coach Dave Heffern. “Lots of fun, real wild. We played well.”
Fishers’ Reese Knoderer won the No. 1 singles match in three sets, and its No. 2 doubles team of Logan Kay and Drew Barker triumphed in two close sets. The Royals got a quick win from No. 3 singles Andrew Orme to start the meet, then their No. 1 doubles team of Andrew Spirrison and Paul Schneider won in straight sets after toughing out the first set 7-5.
“It hurts to be on the losing side of it, but I’m still proud of the way our guys fought,” said HSE coach Kirk Webber. “Fishers is a tough team, and they were just better than us tonight.”

Hamilton Heights won at Frankton 5-0 on Tuesday.
The Huskies won all five matches in straight sets. In singles, No. 1 Ben Wolfgang was victorious 7-5, 6-4, No. 2 Nick Rice won 6-4, 6-3 and No. 3 Erik Malott won 6-3, 6-2. In the doubles matches, No. 1 Josh Russell and Jake Martin cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory and No. 2 Grant Cavanaugh and Colin Weber were 6-4, 6-2 winners.

Carmel beat Guerin Catholic 5-0 in an all-county match Tuesday between the No. 1-ranked Greyhounds and the No. 10 Golden Eagles.
Both teams return to action on Thursday. Carmel plays Park Tudor and Guerin Catholic takes on Heritage Christian.

Westfield defeated Noblesville 4-1 in a Tuesday all-county dual meet.
Both teams play home duals on Thursday. The 18th-ranked Shamrocks take on Fishers and the Millers welcome Franklin Central.
