The Indianapolis Colts will host up to 2,500 fans for the Sept. 20 home opener against the Minnesota Vikings at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The decision to host a maximum of 2,500 fans was made after discussions with the Marion County Public Health Department. The allowance also meets guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to limit the spread of COVID-19.
The stadium seats 67,000 fans during football games.
The number of tickets available for the Sept. 20 game will be limited. A process is also being set up in order to address fans who have already purchased single-game tickets for the home opener and fans who have purchased a four-game ticket pack that included the home opener, according to a press release sent to News 8.
“Our top priority always will be the health and safety of fans, players and staff, so we must take the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe, which includes a reduced stadium capacity on gameday,” said Colts Chief Operating Officer Pete Ward in a news release Friday. “We will continue to work with local health officials on steps that will allow our season to go on as safely as possible with fans in the stands. And we continue to appreciate the patience of all our fans as we navigate the fluid nature of this pandemic.”
Specific health and safety procedures for 2020 home games will be released by the team this week.
