The Westfield boys tennis team split a pair of all-county dual meets early this week.
On Monday, the No. 18-ranked Shamrocks beat No. 8 Guerin Catholic 4-1. Westfield swept the doubles matches, with the teams of Christian Emigh/Brett Barnes and Ben Jones/Carson Kessler getting the victories. Quentin Markle won at No. 1 singles and Connor Housefield took the No. 1 singles match. GC’s Jak Kolb was victorious at No. 3 singles.
On Tuesday, No. 10 Hamilton Southeastern came to the Shamrocks’ courts and won 5-0. The Royals got straight-set wins from No. 2 singles Rohan Golla, No. 3 singles Andrew Orme and No. 2 doubles Evan Wang/Abhi Chaddha. No. 1 doubles Andrew Spirrison/Paul Schneider won in three sets. At No. 1 singles, Markle and Aiden De Witt played a tough three-set match, with De Witt winning a third-set tiebreak 7-5.
Hamilton Heights played at the Harrison Invitational on Saturday.
The Huskies were missing two starters who were out taking the SATs, but still battled. Heights fell to Merrillville 3-2 and to Northwestern 4-1. The No. 2 doubles team of Colin Weber/Grant Cavanaugh won both their matches, with Erik Malott winning at No. 2 singles against Merrillville.
