The Hamilton Southeastern boys tennis team dropped two close dual meets to top-level teams early this week.
On Monday, the No. 10-ranked Royals were edged out by No. 2 North Central 3-2. The Panthers won the Nos. 1 and 2 singles matches, but Southeastern took both doubles matches. Andrew Spirrison and Paul Schneider won the No. 1 match 6-2, 6-0, with the No. 2 team of Evan Wang and Abhi Chaddha taking their match 6-3, 7-5. North Central won the No. 3 singles match in three sets to clinch the meet.
On Tuesday, the Royals traveled to No. 4 Zionsville, and again fell 3-2. Southeastern won at No. 2 singles, where Rohan Golla toughed out a 7-5, 7-5 victory, and at No. 3 singles, where Andrew Orme cruised 6-2, 6-0. The Eagles clinched the dual by winning at No. 1 doubles, 6-1 in the third set.
“This one is a tough loss for the team, but we definitely had some bright spots, and it is a match that we can learn from,” said HSE coach Kirk Webber. “This is the kind of match that will make it that much sweeter when we reach our full potential. It just wasn’t meant to be tonight. We just have to keep working and keep believing.”
The Royals are 1-3 and will host Franklin Central on Thursday.
