It was a long night in Louisville for the Carmel Greyhounds Friday.
Carmel, the defending Indiana Class 6A state champion, played at Trinity, the defending Kentucky Class 6A state champion. Trinity dominated the game, scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter and never looking back on its way to a 31-3 victory.
The last time Carmel had been held to three points in a game was back on Aug. 21, 2009, when the Greyhounds played Cathedral in its season opener. Connor Coghlan kicked a 41-yard field goal with 2:06 left in the fourth quarter, saving Carmel from a shutout – something it has not experienced in 11 years.
Trinity held the 6A No. 1 ‘Hounds to 80 all-purpose yards, 45 in passing and 35 in rushing. Jake McDonald was 6-of-18 in passing, while Camari Hunt had the most rushing yards with 24.
Carmel will play its home opener next Friday, hosting Noblesville.
