Scrimmages are continuing throughout Hamilton County this week, including an all-county get-together between the Westfield and Guerin Catholic boys tennis teams at the Shamrocks’ courts.
Both teams have experienced players on their rosters. Westfield’s varsity seven includes five returners from last season: Brett Barnes, Carson Kessler, Connor Housefield, Christian Emigh and Quentin Markle all played varsity matches in 2019. Cam Kooi and Foster Edwards are the other two players on the varsity list.
Meanwhile, the Golden Eagles have a nice mix of returning varsity players back as well. Senior Cole Metzger and junior Jak Kolb will be among the singles players, with sophomores Zach Thieme and John Tiplick playing doubles. Junior Bradley Getts moves up from junior varsity. Senior Liam Hogan and freshman Max Fuller are also part of the varsity lineup.
Guerin Catholic begins its regular season on Saturday, when it hosts Fishers in a 10 a.m. dual meet. Westfield’s first regular-season meet will take place Tuesday at North Central.
In other opening meets, Hamilton Heights will host its Husky Invitational, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Heights will then host Elwood on Tuesday.
A big all-county meet is also set for Tuesday, when defending state champion Carmel hosts Hamilton Southeastern. Also on Tuesday, Guerin Catholic welcomes Park Tudor.
