The Westfield Library Foundation says it is proud to announce the launch of a campaign to help raise funds for a free tutoring program for students in Westfield and Washington Township.
The Westfield Washington Public Library and the Westfield Youth Assistance Program have partnered to provide a free tutoring program for local students in need. Through this service, the two organizations hope to reach socioeconomically disadvantaged youth within the community, guiding them to academic success while leveraging the library and its resources.
Starting in 2019, this program has been able to help a small number of students; but in 2020 the aim is to help even more, especially with the uncertainty of a normal school year.
For a donation of $225, a student is sponsored for six weeks of tutoring. Westfield Youth Assistance matches the student with an approved tutor. By helping to raise funds for this program, the hope is to alleviate the financial burden students and families are unable to manage for tutoring as well as help compensate qualified instructors that encourage them in their pursuit of learning.
The program also supports the library’s mission of fostering exploration, discovery and growth, as well as its vision to serve as the cornerstone of lifelong learning in Westfield and Washington Township. Donations can be made at the library or by clicking here.
Westfield Library Foundation Executive Director Eric Downey said, “The Foundation is excited to be able to help students and the community by raising funds for this worthwhile program.”
