July 30, 1943 – June 28, 2020
James Russell “George” Kemp, 76, Sheridan, passed away on Sunday morning, June 28, 2020 at Majestic Care of Sheridan. Born July 30, 1943 in Marion County, he was the son of the late Russell B. and Carrie Opal (Wright) Kemp.
George attended Sheridan High School and honorably served his country as a soldier in the United States Army.
For many years George worked for Waitt Farms. He loved helping Grover with the planting and harvesting and assisting him with the horses. After a long hard day of work, you could usually find him resting in the shade of a tree out on the farm.
He loved mushroom hunting and never turned down a bowl of chili and corn bread, a can of Pepsi, or an ice cold PBR. George was a 51-year member of the K.V. Elliott American Legion Post 67 in Sheridan. He loved everyone at the Legion and considered many of them part of his family.
George is survived by his cousins, Marcia Doty (Raymond), Fortville, Louanna Parr (Kenneth), Monroe, Wis., and Denzil Shoe (Regina), Westfield; nieces and nephews, Andrew, Kimberly and Melissa Dwiggins; his extended family; Lisa Trump (Gary), Kathy Small (Bill), Ashley Santasiero, Matt Dollard (Anne), Andrew Dollard, Kenny Waitt and Kent Waitt; and by his Legion family, Renai King and Alan Brock.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patricia Louise Turpen; and by his aunt and uncle, Homer and Eva Wright.
George’s family would like to thank Majestic Care of Sheridan for the wonderful care and the love they provided him over the years.
