County nears 2,000 COVID-19 cases

Fishers adds 114 new cases in past two weeks

Hamilton County has recorded nearly 200 new cases of COVID-19 in the past week, and daily new cases for the past 30 days now outpace new cases reported during the 30-day time period of mid-April through mid-May, a time during which local officials closed schools and shutdown government buildings.

Hamilton County health officials say they are noticing an increase in number of cases in younger age groups. According the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH), people 39 years old and younger account for 41.7 percent of the county’s positive cases.

Although the Fishers Health Department has issued a mandate requiring the use of a mask while in public, Hamilton County health officials said last week they have no plans of implementing mandatory mask wearing due to enforcement issues.

On Tuesday, the number of COVID-19 cases in Fishers reached 637, up 114 in the past 14 days.

As of Tuesday, the Indiana State Board of Health has recorded a statewide total of 57,916 COVID-19 cases. ISDH also reports 2,652 deaths have occurred as a result of the virus. A total of 644,855 Hoosiers have been tested for COVID-19.

In Hamilton County, a total of 35,540 tests have been performed and 1,991 people have now tested positive. A total of 102 people have died as a result of COVID-19 in Hamilton County.
