Phyllis Ann (Orr) Woods

May 11, 1936 – July 2, 2020

Mrs. Phyllis Ann (Orr) Woods, 84, Pendleton, beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully at home Thursday evening, July 2, 2020.

The eldest in the family, she was born on May 11, 1936 in Indianapolis to the late Retus G. (Pat) and Kathryn (Cheeseman) Orr. Her siblings, Kathleen (Frank) Barron and Michael (Susan) Orr survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Terry.

In October of 1955, Phyllis wed her handsome groom, Terry K. Woods of Fishers. They had nearly 60 happy years together. Phyllis and Terry hosted countless family gatherings and holidays.

She loved to travel, especially to the ocean, and enjoyed numerous family vacations. Special memories were made at the annual Hilton Head trip with dear friends Ed and Rosie and the late Elmer and Carol. Phyllis was a homemaker, and after the children were raised, Phyllis worked at the Indianapolis Racquet Club for over 20 years. Phyllis spent much time volunteering and supporting her children’s and grandchildren’s sports and music events. In her younger years, she enjoyed singing in choirs and camping. Phyllis was active in Hamilton Southeastern Parent Booster Club, was a room mother for every one of her children, and a Den Mother for the twins. For 40 years she loved being part of a couples card club. As one of the founding members of the pinochle group that is still active after 60 years, she made great friends and enjoyed lots of laughter. In her later years, she loved watching the Pacers, Colts, and game shows.

Phyllis’s family admired her for her loving nature, words of wisdom, and her kind heart. In addition to her siblings, survivors include four children and their spouses: Pam and Ron Carey, Greg and Kellie Woods, Bruce and Michelle Woods, and Brian and Annette Woods; 10 wonderful grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren, with one more on the way.
