Charlie Cambre can now add Sagamore of the Wabash to his long list of accomplishments.
An event was planned for Cambre earlier in the year, but was delayed until Saturday due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The award was presented during Cambre’s retirement reception Saturday afternoon at Red Bridge Park Community Center, 697 W. Jackson St., Cicero. Cambre was given recognition for his 29 years serving as Cicero Parks Superintendent by representatives from every level of the Hoosier community.
At the state level, Cambre was named Sagamore of the Wabash.
Hamilton County Commissioner Mark Heirbrandt announced that Hamilton County will present him with a Rampart Award on July 13.
The Town of Cicero declared June 27, 2020 to be Charlie Cambre Day.
The Parks Department added an acorn-shaped plaque to the commemorative tree display in the Community Center, as seen above.
Cicero Friends of the Park established a scholarship in Cambre’s honor and awarded the first two on Saturday.
Truly, Cambre is a man who has earned respect at every level of his community.
