Lead investigator Jeff Kirk likes to tell clients he is not Magnum P.I. or James Rockford. “Since we are all retired police officers, we all understand the legal ramifications of what we do,” Kirk told The Reporter. “There are legal standards we have to adhere to and there are certain things we won’t do.”

As an example, if some calls SPIS trying to look up an old flame from high school, they can certainly find that person, but they will not give out that person’s contact information until SPIS has ensured it is acceptable to that person to do so.

“There are certain ethical standards we have to adhere to,” Kirk said.

Kirk moved to Hamilton County in 2013 and opened SPIS early this year.

“When I retired from the police department up in Kokomo, my wife was commuting back and forth to St. Vincent hospital,” Kirk explained. “I had accepted a position with the gaming commission in downtown Indianapolis. Rather than both of us commuting, which was ridiculous, we decided to look for something closer. We chose Westfield and Hamilton County specifically because of the low crime rate and the community as a whole. We like it here. It is a wholesome place.”

And now he is looking help this wholesome place by offering his expertise to those in the community who need it.

According to the SPIS website, spis-llc.com, “We know that family turmoil can strike any family. From infidelity to divorce and child custody issues, we are committed to getting you the information you need to prevail in court or negotiations.”

They also offer assistance with criminal defense.

“We also know that sometimes good people find themselves in bad situations,” Kirk told The Reporter. “All of our investigators are proven trial ready investigators or former deputy prosecutors. We know what should and shouldn’t be in reports and statements. We know what to look for. We can review police reports and witness statements for inaccuracies or inconsistencies, often just what is needed to put that shadow of doubt in someone’s mind.”

Unlike his role as a police officer, where he spent most of his career as an investigator, Kirk is now working in a field that is more proactive that reactive.

“As a private investigator I want to be able to help people and eliminate problems before they become major issues,” Kirk said. “There is a lot of stuff out there and times when people aren’t sure who to turn to.”

He sees SPIS as a place people can call to ask, “What can I do about this?” And if SPIS can help they will. If they cannot help, they will tell you that too.

Meetings arranged by appointment only. You can call SPIS at (317) 607-0904, email them at info@spis-llc.com, visit them online at spis-llc.com and find them on Facebook by searching Strategic Professional Investigation Services.

Editor’s note: Though SPIS address is 1950 E. Greyhound Pass Suite 18 #172, Carmel, the firm is located north of 146th Street and thus inside Westfield. They do not take part in local city rivalries and serve all of Hamilton and surrounding counties with equal levels of care and professionalism.
