Vandals deface Carmel statue of fallen officer

A popular statue of a police officer that greets people on Carmel’s Main Street along the Monon Trail was vandalized over the weekend. The suspects, in red paint, wrote, “It could happen here” on the back of the statue. The statue memorializes Officer Frank Carey, a police officer killed in the line of duty in 1900 by Thomas “Cyclone” Johnson.
