November 18, 1939 – April 8, 2020
Danese Dunlap Malkmus, 80, Westfield, passed away April 8, 2020. She was born on November 18, 1939, in Long Beach, Calif.
Danese received both her BS and MA from California State University, Long Beach. She was a Speech and Language Pathologist, starting her career at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital. Danese developed and co-authored the “Rancho Scale” used to determine levels of cognition and communication for adult traumatic head injury. She had a passion in this area and as a result was sought out as a gifted lecturer. She set up many programs and lectured across the country. Danese was a longtime member of A.S.H.A (American Speech and Hearing Association).
Danese loved to cook. Sunday dinners would include trying a new recipe which, of course, was always delicious. She enjoyed spending time working outside in her flower garden, especially her potted plants. Danese was also creative, whether it would be drawing, decorating or shopping. She loved spending time with and spoiling her beloved fur babies, Scout and Molly.
Danese is survived by her daughters, Kathryn Yuhl and Lizabeth Cunningham; grandchildren, Colin Yuhl, Lindsay Patten, Tyalor Bell, Keegan Yuhl and Adam Bacon.
Danese requested a funeral not be held to honor her; however, would convey the message saying: “Hold loved ones close to your heart.”
