From the Heart
In all of this chaos and cluster I have found my aroundtuit! You know, those things that I always wanted to do when I had the time and got around to it.
The first was found in my kitchen. When I am working, my cooking skills are put on a shelf or inside the refrigerator, until the weekends. Now I am in my happy place every day.
I may not be bringing home the bacon, but I can still fry an entire ham in a pan. Actually, it’s a cast iron skillet, in I which I fry each piece individually.
As it fries in a bit of oil, I sprinkle each slice with some of the brown sugar mix that comes with it. This is something my mother taught me and my family requests it every holiday. It takes hours. I remember how much I love my family as I reach about the third hour. This Easter my family did a drive-by pickup.
If my dishwasher had a voice I am sure she would say, “When is this woman ever going back to work?” Instead of the twice a week workout she is getting one every other day. I call her a “she” because she takes forever.
My cooking skills are a combination of Paula Deen, Rachael Ray and Audrey Hart. Quick comfort food made with love.
I have become obsessed with baking homemade banana bread. I know the gal selecting groceries for my Walmart pickup has to wonder why I need 12 bananas every few days. That makes three loaves. They get delivered as a surprise to various friends. Don’t worry, I do social distance deliveries. With my mask and gloves I look like a porch pirate, only I give, not take.
My #2 obsession has become jigsaw puzzles. Seriously, I sit down and three hours later I am still hunched over and wearing my reading glasses (now called my puzzle glasses). Chuck has to remind me it’s midnight and that I never stay up that late … until now. I am on my sixth puzzle.
When the weather gets nice, I will get my hands out in the mulch and dirt. Chuck knows I would much rather have mulch than diamonds so there is a large pile in our driveway. I love that man!
Well, I never in my wildest nightmares thought that I would find my aroundtuit during a virus. This sheltering down, slowing down has been good in many ways. Chuck made me a round piece of wood with the words “TUIT” on it as a souvenir. I will cherish it as much as I do my mulch … and Chuck!
