New “Where to Donate” directory helps Hamilton County residents easily assist food insecure families this summer

It’s the time of year when backyard gardeners often bring their excess produce to work to share with others. If you have extra vegetables and fruits that you can’t use, the Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation District asks that you consider dropping them off directly at one of the food pantries in Hamilton County where they will be given to food insecure families. A one page directory of all food pantries that accept produce donations from the public is available to view and print at www.HamiltonSWCD.org/FoodPantries. The directory includes the names of the food pantries along with their addresses and the days/times that they accept donations.

Donations of all sizes are appreciated and used. For example, a few tomatoes donated from someone’s backyard garden may not seem like a lot, but every amount of donated produce adds up and will be distributed to food insecure families. Non-gardeners are also welcome to participate by donating fresh produce bought from a farmers market or grocery store.
