Noblesville High School announces Athletic Hall of Fame Class for 2018

The Executive Committee of the Noblesville High School Athletic Hall of Fame is proud to announce this year’s induction class.  It consists of four individuals and two state championship teams.
This is the sixth class of former NHS Miller standouts to be honored.  The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, Jan. 26 at the Boys Varsity Basketball game vs. Hamilton Southeastern.
Nominations can be obtained on the Noblesville High School Athletic Web page and should be sent to the NHS Athletic Office c/o Tony Oilar.  A committee of 15 community members vote each year on the nominees.
This year’s class follows:

Tom Able (1958) – football, basketball, track
In 1957 gained 1,057 yards on 80 attempts to establish a school record of 13.2 yards per carry. Established a new school football individual record of 168 points in a season. Led the football team to a 19-1 record his junior and senior season. Started at quarterback three years. Played on the 1957 Semi-state basketball team. Played on two sectional championship teams in basketball.

Joe Burris (1961) – football, basketball, track & baseball
Played on three sectional basketball championship teams. Outstanding fullback in football. Established the career county scoring record of 231 points. Held the county and school shot put record. Outstanding baseball player. Lettered in four different sports.

Ray “Tubby” McDonald (1963) – football, track, baseball, golf
Outstanding four-sport athlete. Great offensive lineman in football. Named All-State and All-County in football. Also lettered multiple times in baseball, golf and track. Excellent shot putter in track.

Bill Nevitt (1949) – football, basketball, track
Won nine letters….three each in football, basketball and track. All-County in football three years. Named to the All-Sectional basketball team as a senior. In track, qualified for the Regional in 1949. Member of the Hamilton County Basketball Hall of Fame. Served as the first Athletic Director at NHS from 1967-1984.

  1. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU. I attended a lot of games during theJoe Burris era and the sectionals at Carmel Our MILLERS Were GREAT and I am grateful for those days. I am 95 now and still call NOBLESVIILLE. Home.
