Hamilton Heights High School graduate Alec Policka is gaining experience as an intern with State Rep. Tony Cook (R-Cicero) and his fellow members of the Indiana House of Representatives during the 2020 legislative session.
Policka is the son of Greg and Gretchen Policka. He is attending Purdue University and majoring in political science.
“This internship has given me opportunities to network and grow my interpersonal skills,” Policka said. “It’s been a fun and rewarding experience as I work with representatives and staff at the Statehouse, learning about the legislative process and being a part of the action.”
As a legislative intern, Policka corresponds with constituents through phone calls, letters and emails, while also staffing committee hearings and floor proceedings.
“Alec is gaining professional experience through this internship that he will be able to use in his career,” Cook said. “He and other interns spend every day working on important tasks, like preparing members for session or committee hearings, communicating directly with constituents and tracking where bills are in the process. I always enjoy when students from our community benefit from this opportunity, and I am excited to see where Alec’s future takes him.”
Each year, the House of Representatives offers paid internship opportunities to college students, law school students, graduate students and recent college graduates for the duration of each legislative session.
