The Tigers won eight of the 12 events, and qualified eight other swims to state by times. Fishers won the first four events: Jo Jo Ramey, Lydia Reade, Alexandra Stein and Kalli Agapios teamed up to place first in the medley relay, Kate Mouser took the 200 free, Jo Jo Ramey was first in the IM and Ellen Fero won the 50 free.
Other event victories came from Abigail Miller in the butterfly, Ramey in the 500 free, the 200 free relay team of Fero, Agapios, Stein and Hannah Pratt, and Lydia Reade in the breaststroke.
Fishers achieved state cut times from the following swimmers: Pratt in the 200 free, Reade and Corinne Yorkman in the IM, Fero in the 100 free, Abby Jahns and Yorkman in the 500 free and the 400 free relay team of Jo Jo Ramey, Mouser, Yorkman and Pratt. In addition, divers Morgan Casey and Grace Mossing placed second and third respectively, and will head north to Tuesday’s diving regional at Fort Wayne South Side.
“We feel good about the step today, the performance today,” said Fishers coach Joe Keller.
“We’ve been talking to the kids about, this is like a four-step process,” said Keller. “Step one was Thursday, today was step two, so we’re at halftime now. Step three and four are the most important coming up. Hopefully we’ve saved our best for last.”
The Royals picked up four event victories. Sarah Ballard was first in diving (qualifying for the regional), Molly Pedersen won the 100 free, Abigail Harter ran away with the backstroke, and Southeastern finished the meet with a win in the 400 free relay. Kayleigh Witt, Grace Newton, Pedersen and Harter teamed up for that victory.
The Royals qualified both of their relays to state by time. Rebecca Ang, Kennedy Fisher, DaBin Jung and Harter made the cut in the medley relay, while Kennedy Fisher, Bri Saple, Witt and Pedersen qualified in the 200 free relay. Pedersen and Witt both qualified in the 200 free relay and Fisher got a state cut time in the breaststroke, giving Southeastern a total of nine swims at state, with some callbacks possible as well.
“Swam really well,” said Royals coach Andy Pedersen. “I’m very pleased. The girls were excited and took advantage of opportunities where they could. I was really pleased with the effort and the enthusiasm. We got a great team.”
Hamilton Heights did well in its first meet at the HSE/Fishers sectional. Huskies diver Alexa Williams placed fourth and qualified for the regional. Heights also had all three relays place fifth.
Huskies coach Sue Beale was named as one of the three coaches of the meet, along with Keller.
“I thought we swam really well,” said Beale. “Most people had a personal record, or personal best time. Relays placed really well. Next year I’d like to get a few more in that were 17th, but all in all, I think we swam great.”
