In this award-winning revue, some of the most lush, unforgettable songs from this musical theater master are presented in one magical evening. Featuring music from “Company,” “Follies,” “A Little Night Music,” “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” “Anyone Can Whistle” and “Pacific Overtures,” not to mention the classics written with musical theater giants, Leonard Bernstein, Julie Styne and Richard Rodgers, this dazzling array of some of Sondheim’s best-known songs demonstrates his masterful craft and astounding creativity.
“Side by Side by Sondheim first opened on May 4, 1976, at the Mermaid Theatre in London, England. The show ran there for eight weeks and then moved to the larger Wyndham Theatre, where it ran for three years. This show became very popular with regional companies, and is perhaps the single biggest reason for the spread of Sondheim’s popularity beyond sophisticated New York and London Theatre circles. Since it was put together in 1975, the show only contains material up through Pacific Overtures, and is the only official Sondheim revue that uses music written by other composers with Sondheim lyrics.
Ron Richards is director and Brenna Whitaker is musical director of the revue, a Musical Theatre International production.
