Huskies return to action with big conference win

Hamilton Heights returned to the court for the first time in two weeks, hosting Northwestern Friday night in a Hoosier Conference game.
The Huskies were obviously ready to go, as they used a tremendous first quarter to overwhelm the Tigers 76-58. The victory keeps Heights undefeated in Hoosier Conference East Division play at 3-0; the Huskies lead the division.
Heights jumped out to a 29-11 lead after the first period. Gus Etchison poured in 14 points, including four 3-pointers, while Camron Knott had eight points, including two 3s. That was just a warm-up for Knott, who added two more triples in the second period and had 20 points by halftime.
The Huskies led 45-22 at the break. Northwestern cut into Heights’ lead in the third period, but were still down 58-42 by the quarter’s end. The Huskies maintained their advantage in the fourth, helped out by 8-of-9 foul shooting.
Knott finished the game with 31 points, including five 3s and an 8-of-8 performance from the line, and also reached double-double status with 11 rebounds. Etchison totaled 26 points and four 3-pointers.
Heights is 8-3 and plays another home game tonight, welcoming Bishop Luers.
