The Guerin Catholic basketball teams played a Circle City Conference girls-boys doubleheader Friday at Bishop Chatard. The Golden Eagles girls fell to the Trojans 58-41, while the GC boys won 63-56.
In the girls game, Chatard jumped out to a 20-12 lead after the first quarter, then held a 33-23 advantage at halftime. The Trojans slowly extended their lead in the second half.
Nicole Cunningham scored 14 points to lead Guerin Catholic, including two 3-pointers. Kathryn Loso added 12 points.
In the boys game, the Golden Eagles took an early lead, going up 21-11 by the end of the first quarter. Guerin Catholic led 37-27 at halftime and were able to maintain their lead in the second half.
Joseph Bobilya scored 20 points, including a 10-of-12 effort from the free-throw line. Bernie McGuinness added 17 points, while Cameron Weitzel scored 13. Weitzel was the leading rebounder with eight, while McGuinness collected seven and Kaleb Edwards had five.
The Golden Eagles girls are 0-3 in the conference and 5-10 overall. They will play another conference game Tuesday, taking on Roncalli at the Eagles Nest.
Meanwhile, Guerin Catholic’s boys are perfect in the conference at 3-0 and are 10-2 overall. The Golden Eagles’ play next Friday against CCC opponent Covenant Christian, also at home.
