Big second half keeps University perfect

University took care of business in the second half at the U Center on Tuesday, rolling past New Castle 77-48 to keep its record perfect at 17-0.
The Class 2A No. 2 Trailblazers were tested by the 3A Trojans in the first half. University led 18-14 after the first quarter, but New Castle was still within 31-29 at halftime. Three different players – Kelsey DuBois, Sierra Hinds and Maddi Sears all had seven points in the first half for the ‘Blazers.
University ran away with the third period, outscoring the Trojans 26-8. Hinds drained three 3-pointers for nine points, while Lindsey Syrek added eight points. The Trailblazers cruised through the fourth quarter, with Sears adding another 11 points.
Sears finished with 18 points and was one of three University players to have a double-double: Sears also handed out 11 assists. DuBois added 13 points and collected 10 rebounds, while Syrek pulled 12 rebounds to go with her 10 points.
Hinds finished with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and made four steals. Peyton Seay and Jordan Patterson each added 10 points, giving the ‘Blazers six players in double figures. Seay and Sears each had seven rebounds. University had nine blocked shots as a team; Syrek had five blocks, with Sears and DuBois both making two.
The Trailblazers take on two more Class 3A teams this week. University hosts Yorktown on Thursday, then plays at Lebanon on Saturday afternoon.
