Golden Eagles boys hold off Lebanon

Guerin Catholic’s boys basketball team won its seventh straight game on Saturday, edging out Lebanon 59-57 at the Tigers’ Rosenstihl Gymnasium.
Lebanon skipped off to an 11-2 first-quarter lead, but the Golden Eagles closed the period with an 8-0 run to get within 11-10. The Tigers made another big run of their own to go up 33-24 by halftime, but Guerin took control in the second half. The Golden Eagles allowed Lebanon only seven points in the third, then outscored the Tigers 22-17 in the fourth quarter.
Four Guerin Catholic players reached double figures: Bernie McGuinness had 19 points, with Kaleb Edwards, Joseph Bobilya and Matthew Gillis all contributing 10 points. Gillis had eight rebounds, while McGuinness collected seven. The Golden Eagles played strong defense with 14 team steals; Bobilya had six and McGuinness had five.
Guerin Catholic is now 9-2 and plays a Circle City Conference game Friday at Bishop Chatard.
