Max Gene Starrett, 87, Arcadia, passed away December 4, 2019 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Tipton. He was born August 23, 1932 in Ekin, Ind., to Malcom Everett and Melba Florence (Pickard) Starrett.
He was a graduate of Sheridan High School with the Class of 1950. Max was employed for many years at Dow Chemical Company in Indianapolis where he worked in the research and testing department.
He was a longtime member of Arcadia Christian Church and the Tipton American Legion. He enjoyed camping, fishing and all sporting events, especially Hamilton Heights football games and all sporting events in which his children and grandchildren were involved. His family attested to him being a great dad and grandfather. After retiring he and his wife enjoyed spending winter months in Florida.
He married Marilyn Alice (Peltier) Starrett on June 10, 1951. She preceded him in death May 25, 2019. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Starrett, and sisters, Betty Pickard and Janet Tharp.
Surviving him is a daughter,: Robin Sue (Jerry) Eckart, Cicero; sons, Gene “Smoke” (Colleen) Starrett, Cicero, and Donald Max Starrett, Noblesville; a brother, Larry Starrett, Sebring, Fla.; five grandchildren, Chad and Andy Starrett, Amanda Billman, Hilary Kilfoil and Ross Eckart; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on December 16, 2019 at Hartley Funeral Home Cicero Chapel, 209 W. Jackson St., Cicero, with Pastor J.R. Moffatt officiating. Burial will occur at Arcadia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. prior to the services.
