Carmel fell to Lawrence Central 67-41 on Friday in the first Metropolitan Conference game of the season for both teams.
It was a battle between the top two teams in the Associated Press Class 4A poll, with the host Bears rated No. 1 and the Greyhounds No. 2. Lawrence Central led 16-9 after the first quarter, then took control in the second period, pouring in 23 points on its way to a 39-19 halftime lead.
Peter Suder scored 12 points for Carmel, with Charlie Williams adding 11. Suder also collected eight rebounds.
The Greyhounds are 1-2 and play their home opener next Friday against Noblesville.
