‘Rocks blast Kokomo, Smith scores 35

Westfield got a big victory in its season-opener on Saturday, beating Kokomo 68-50 in an away game.
It was a close game in the first half, with the Shamrocks up 14-12 after the first quarter and 33-30 at halftime. But Westfield took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Wildkats 20-8.
The ‘Rocks were led by sophomore Braden Smith, who poured in 35 points, including seven 3-pointers. Smith also collected eight rebounds and handed out four assists. Junior Benji Welch and sophomore Nic Depasquale both added 10 points. Senior Camden Simons and sophomore Cam Haffner both pulled five rebounds.
Westfield plays its home opener Tuesday against Pendleton Heights.
