Millers drop opener at LN

Noblesville opened its season on the road Thursday, falling to a tough Lawrence North team 62-39.
The Millers stayed with the Class 4A No. 4 Wildkats in the first quarter, leading 15-12. But LN took off in the second period, outscoring Noblesville 18-4 to take a 30-19 halftime lead. The Wildkats then led 52-26 after three quarters.
Freshman Ashlynn Shade began her Noblesville career in a big way, scoring 26 points, including five 3-pointers. Shade also led in rebounds with six, while senior Abby Haley and freshman Dani Mendez both pulled four.
Haley is one of four returning starters for the team, along with senior Anna Kiser and juniors Mallory Miller and Emily Wood.
“We are excited for the upcoming season,” said Millers coach Donna Buckley in earlier comments. “We have a nice mix of experience and youth. We believe we will be a deep and athletic team. We are excited about the potential of this group and plan to focus on getting better each day.”
Noblesville will play its first home game on Saturday, hosting Fort Wayne Snider. The junior varsity tips off at 5 p.m., with the varsity to follow.
