Huskies drop opener at Brownsburg

Hamilton Heights opened its season at Brownsburg on Wednesday, and fell to the Class 4A No. 8 Bulldogs 58-40.
Brownsburg got on top of the Huskies early, leading 19-9 after the first quarter. Heights played even with the Bulldogs in the other three periods, but Brownsburg still outscored them in each of those quarters, leading 29-18 at halftime.
Junior Jillian Osswald led the Huskies scoring with 12 points, while sophomore MyKayla Moran added 11 points and led the rebounding with six boards. Sophomore Sydney Runyan pulled five rebounds.
In earlier comments, Heights coach Keegan Cherry said that his team has limited numbers returning with significant varsity experience. In addition to Osswald and Moran, other returning starters include seniors Bayleigh Runner and Payton Dissett.
“Bayleigh Runner is the most underrated guard in the state,” said Cherry. “We expect Bayleigh to have a stellar senior season,” noting that she has a chance to finish as Hamilton Heights’ all-time leading scorer.
Cherry said that the Huskies played “the toughest schedule in Class 3A last year and nothing changes this year.”
“We have tremendous parent support and student athletes with great attitudes that work hard,” said Cherry. “Our end of season record may not reflect how good we are, but hopefully our schedule will prepare us to compete in our fourth sectional final in as many years.”
Heights will play Friday at Danville.
