The Ivy Tech Foundation named Susannah (Sue) Harger Dillon as the Central Indiana recipient for its 2019 Benefactor of the Year Awards. Dillon was recognized at the ninth annual Benefactors Awards Dinner, held on Sept. 26 at the French Lick Hotel.
During this event, the Foundation honors individuals, corporations and foundations from Indiana who have considerably impacted Ivy Tech communities and students through exceptional philanthropic and volunteer leadership. It also celebrates the gifts of time, talent and treasure that have been contributed to the College.
Dillon was first introduced to Ivy Tech after meeting a young student named Christian. His eager passion for bettering himself and his family so profoundly moved her that she assisted him through the enrollment process. Dillon also covered costs for his books and tuition, and even helped him with his homework.
This impactful experience gave Dillon the desire to support more Ivy Tech students who have the greatest need who otherwise might never be able to attend college.
In 2018, her dream come to fruition when she established the William T. Harger Endowed Scholarship in honor of her late father. Harger was a civic leader, church and community supporter and owner of Harger Farms in Noblesville.
Ivy Tech Indianapolis recipients of this scholarship will receive funds for tuition, books and fees throughout their Ivy Tech career. If they choose to transfer after graduation, the scholarship will follow them to a state-sponsored university to help cover tuition as well.
“Sue’s belief in the transformative power of education was instilled in her at an early age and is evident by her commitment to improving the lives of students while at Ivy Tech and beyond,” said Danielle Stiles-Polk, executive director of development for Ivy Tech Central Indiana. “We are incredibly thankful that her generous gift will positively affect the lives of Ivy Tech students for generations to come.”
