Hamilton Heights held off Twin Lakes for a Homecoming win on Friday night.
The Huskies beat the Indians 27-20. The game was back-and-forth in the first half: Twin Lakes got on the board first with 4:27 left in the first quarter, but Heights answered quickly, with Brent Pennington catching a 21-yard touchdown pass from Guy Griffey just 14 seconds later.
In the second quarter, the Indians scored on a long run to lead 13-6. The Huskies got the touchdown back when Homecoming king Camron Knott caught a 30-yard pass from Isaac Wilson. That made the score 13-12 at halftime.
The third quarter would make the difference. Heights scored with 4:55 left in the period after Pennington caught his second TD pass of the game from Griffey. Deshawn King then converted a two-point run, and that sent the Huskies into the fourth quarter ahead 20-13.
King scored Heights’ only rushing touchdown of the game midway through the fourth, and Michael Lecher’s kick extended the Huskies’ lead to 27-13. The Indians answered back immediately with a kickoff return, but Heights was able to hold on for the win.
King had an outstanding game, leading the Huskies in both rushing (124 yards on 13 carries) and receptions (five for 45 yards). Griffey finished the game 11-of-20 for 130 yards, while Wilson was 5-of-8 for 49 yards.
Heights is now 2-4 and returns to Hoosier Conference East Division play next week when it travels to Tipton.
