Girls soccer: Royals, Millers set up HCC showdown

There will be another showdown between Hamilton Southeastern and Noblesville for the Hoosier Crossroads Conference girls soccer championship.
Both teams did their part on Wednesday to create what will be a title game. The Class 3A No. 1 Royals held off 3A No. 12 Zionsville 3-2 in an away game, while the 3A No. 3 Millers beat Franklin Central 4-0, also on the road.
Ava Marquardt got the first goal of the game, hitting a cross that deflected into the goal early in the first half to beat Southeastern on the board. But the Eagles tied it up right before halftime, then scored early in the second half to get the Royals down 2-1.
Southeastern got the equalizer with 24 minutes left when Izzie Wallace put in a goal, with Ashlyn Freeman making the assist. Olivia Smith scored the Royals’ third goal minutes later on a corner kick. Marquardt was named the player of the game, “as this might have been her best game in her career to date,” said HSE coach Greg Davidson.
The Millers had a much easier time at Franklin Central. Sydney Anderson quickly scored Noblesville’s first goal, with Elena Chatterton making the assist. That gave the Millers a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Noblesville poured it on in the second half. Jenna Chatterton got the second goal, off a Kate Bettner assist. Kiana Siefert was next, breaking away to score her first-ever varsity goal. Paige Landers finished the game by getting her first varsity goal, with Abby Baker making the assist.
