Join Carmel city officials, the Carmel Public Art Advisory Committee, Blu Moon and Great Growin’s to celebrate the unveiling of a new sculpture at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27 in the roundabout at the intersection of Range Line Road and Elm/4th Street SE. Event attendees will gather on Great Growin’s lawn on the southeast side of the roundabout.
This new sculpture, with bold shapes and vibrant colors, is titled “Reckon,” which is a term used in English for the process of thinking. To reckon is to arrive at a deduction or conclusion, with a quality of intuitive thinking and approximate guessing. The structure of the sculpture is that of a radiant energy – both a sun and a flower, both provider and receiver. It implies reaction and expansion, and the vitality of living energy.
The sculpture, produced by artist Brad Howe, will be situated in the middle of the roundabout, where it not only adds to the aesthetic value of the landscape, but also serves as a visual barrier to help keep the attention of motorists directed to the left as they enter the roundabout. Another one of Howe’s sculptures located in the roundabout on the north end of the Arts District complements this new sculpture.
