Brebeuf hands GC first loss

Guerin Catholic suffered its first setback of the season on Friday, as the Golden Eagles dropped a 20-15 away game to Brebeuf Jesuit in their Circle City Conference opener.
The Braves scored a touchdown in the first quarter. Guerin Catholic got on the board early in the second with a five-yard rushing touchdown from Christian Gelov, but Brebeuf blocked the extra point attempt. The Braves got another touchdown later in the period to go up 14-6.
Luke Etchison kicked a field goal with six second left in the half to keep GC within 14-9 at halftime. The Golden Eagles then took a 15-14 lead with 7:34 left in the third when Bernie McGuinness caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Gelov. But the Braves scored again in the fourth quarter and held on to the lead from there.
Gelov had a sensational night passing, completing 18 of 26 attempts for 234 yards. McGuinness made eight receptions and totaled 103 yards. Gelov was also the leading rusher with 73 yards.
The Golden Eagles are 3-1 and play at Columbus North next Friday.
