Good start sends ‘Rocks to win over Hawks

Westfield got off to a solid start at Decatur Central Friday night, and that led the Shamrocks to a 36-14 victory.
The Shamrocks scored two touchdowns in the first quarter. Eli Patchett ran the ball in from seven yards, then Micah Hauser caught an eight-yard pass from Cam Simons. Jack Pfeiffer added a short TD in the second quarter, then Westfield received a safety after a holding call was made on the Hawks in the end zone.
The ‘Rocks continued to cruise in the third quarter, with Patchett making a long touchdown run, then Simons threw his second scoring pass of the game to Dane Wheeler. That put Westfield up 36-0. The Class 5A No. 8 Hawks scored twice in the second half, but the game was well in hand for the Shamrocks by then.
Patchett finished the game with 68 yards rushing on 10 carries, while Simons was 8 of 11 through the air for 89 yards.
Westfield is 2-0 for the season and plays at Zionsville next week to begin Hoosier Crossroads Conference competition.
