Dear Editor:

Labor Day is a good time for Carmel taxpayers to note the extent of the city’s deficit spending.

According to the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance, elected city council members and unelected redevelopment commission persons took in $383 million in 2018 and spent $469.7 million.

That is a deficit of $86.7 million dollars – $927 for every man, woman and (sadly) child in the city.

Interestingly, liberal and socialist candidates nationally advocate the same financial devastation on the rest of America.

Carmel is certainly a trendsetter.

Bill Shaffer
