Meet Me on Main returns Saturday, Aug. 10 in the Carmel Arts & Design District. It will include popular components of the Second Saturday Gallery Walks, including live music, face painting and caricatures, new exhibits and features in local art galleries and businesses staying open until 9 p.m.
Come out from 2 to 9 p.m. this Saturday as the community welcomes Lisa Pelo of Hot Blown Glass, Inc. who will lead participants in creating their own pulled-glass flower on 2nd Avenue NW and Main Street. To participate, you must register in advance. Registration is available on Eventbrite and walk-ups will be accommodated if available. The 2019 Rain on Main barrels will be on display along Main Street during Saturday’s event. If you see one you like, go to facebook.com/RainOnMain and vote for the People’s Choice Competition by “liking” the photo.
Meet Me on Main monthly drawing takes place once again. Each month, three $100 gift cards to businesses in the Arts & Design District will be given away. To enter, visit participating galleries and businesses to fill out an entry form. Only one can be filled out per location, but the more businesses visited, the more you can increase your chances. There is no purchase necessary to participate.
Special gallery exhibits this month include:
- Indiana Artisan Gifts & Gallery is inviting people of all ages to take a spin during Meet Me on Main. The Great Spin-Off, a contest to see who can spin a top made by Fishers wood artist Tim Kennedy the longest, will be held throughout the gallery walk in the store. When you’re not spinning, stop in the north gallery to be awed as silk painter Carrie Wright transforms fabric into a colorful piece of art that could become a garment, pillows, scarves or a host of other artful pieces. - Carmel Art on Main Gallery is showcasing its new exhibit, “Canvas & Silk,” fine art for walls and wardrobe. They will feature work from artists, Anastasiya Combs and Sylvia Gray. (111 W. Main St., #140)
- CCA Gallery is featuring its “Summer Travels” exhibit, with all-new Sea Views in 2-D by Elaine Wolfe along with leather-bound books by Megan Winn. (111 W. Main St., #135)
- The Carmel Arts Council Children’s Art Gallery will continue to will feature its summer art show “Everything You Can Imagine is Real.” (40 W. Main St.)
- Soori Gallery features paintings, bronze and acrylic sculptured works by leading American and international artists. (33 E. Main St.)
- The CCPL Digital Media Lab will have wildlife and nature photography by Ronda Hamm and Ryan Jeske on display. The photographers will be there to talk about their work and answer questions. Light refreshments will be served. (23 E. Main St.)
- The Carmel Clay Historical Society will feature “A Good Ol’ Carmel Summertime: Nostalgia and Memories of Northern Beach.” Join the Historical Society as it looks back at this Carmel park and pool from 1923 to 1971. (211 1st SW)
- The Evan Lurie Gallery will feature new work from the Evan Lurie Gallery stable of artists: Ashleigh Sumner, Jorge Santos, Nelson De La Nuez, Angela Gebhardt and Kris Gebhardt. (30 W. Main St.)
Activities taking place during Meet Me on Main include:
- Free caricatures and face painting by Custom Eyes Designs outside of All Things Carmel. (110 W. Main St., #104)
- Free musical entertainment throughout the district: Sara Kays will play near The Olive Mill, Alexander Camp will perform near Anthony’s Chophouse and Lowkeys Jazz will perform near Magdalena Gallery.
