The Noblesville First United Methodist Church, 2051 Monument St., Noblesville, will hold a child hunger awareness event from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22 at the church.
The event, titled “A Fair Shot for All Children: Feeding Children Creates Productive Citizens,” seeks to create urgency in order to better address child hunger in Indiana and deepen engagement of Hoosiers in solutions to child hunger. Every Hoosier child should be able to grow into productive citizens. However, hunger and food insecurity prevent this from becoming a reality.
According to a press release from Noblesville First United Methodist Church, Indiana ranks 42nd in infant mortality, one is six Hoosier children are food insecure, and food insecurity in rampant on college campuses.
Bread for the World – Indiana will sponsor the event, which will include the following guest speakers:
- Wade Clapp, Chair of Pediatrics, IU School of Medicine, on nutrition and infant mortality
- Andrew Hartley, Superintendent of Plymouth Schools, on good nutrition and academic success
- Harriet Giles, Auburn University Hunger Solutions Institute on hunger on college campuses
- U.S. Senator Todd Young on the reality of a “Fair Shot for All Children” related to hunger issues
- Dave Miner with a call to action
