July 9, 1996 – June 29, 2019
Margretha Alyssa Ann Collins, 22, Sheridan, passed away unexpectedly at Riverview Health in Noblesville on Saturday morning, June 29, 2019 following a brief illness. Born in Indianapolis on July 9, 1996, she was the daughter of John Michael and Melissa Ann (Greenwood) Collins.
She was Salutatorian of the Kokomo High School Class of 2015. Alyssa had a very creative and artistic personality. Her years in high school band as a trombone player helped fuel her love of music. As she got older, she found her passion for both creative writing and poetry, as well as her love of drawing and painting. Always looking for a new creative outlet, Alyssa eventually found her way into the kitchen and began cooking up a storm.
Alyssa was a very independent and empowered woman who wanted to leave the world just a little bit better than she found it. She had a kind and loving soul and constantly wanted to reach out and help anyone in need. As an animal lover, she didn’t leave neighborhood strays out of the equation. If there was an animal in need of some love and attention, and sometimes a home, there was no better caretaker than Alyssa.
Family and faith played a strong role in her life. Alyssa was a huge Colts fan, and even though the team has had quite a few rough seasons, she and her brother never missed watching a game together.
Alyssa is survived by her mother, Melissa Ann (Greenwood) Collins; her maternal grandfather, Cameron Greenwood, Sheridan; maternal stepgrandmother, Jennifer Hommel Greenwood, Sheridan; brother, Jonathan Cameron Collins, Sheridan; cousins, Chad Hunter, Jr. and Kaylin Hunter; and by her best friend and maternal aunt, Rachelle A. Greenwood-Hunter (Chad), Sheridan. Also surviving are her canine BFF Cleopatra; her rescue cat Milkshake; and her special friend, Daltan Hicks, Sheridan.
She was preceded in death by her father; maternal grandmother, Carol Ann Greenwood; and her paternal grandparents, Robert and Wanda Joyce Collins.
Services were held on Friday, July 5, 2019 at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St., Sheridan, with visitation prior to the time of service. Elder Gary Streebal officiated. A graveside committal service will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Spencer Cemetery in Sheridan.
