Carmel’s Art of Wine to feature Grammy-nominated artist

The annual Art of Wine event is returning with great wine and great music. In recent years, the Carmel Arts & Design District has hosted popular bands such as Judah & The Lion and St. Paul and The Broken Bones. This year’s entertainment headliner is two-time Grammy nominated blues artist, Cedric Burnside.

Burnside has been named the 2019 “Drummer of the Year” by the Blues Music Awards and received this same award four times in the past eight years. He is an American blues drummer, guitarist, singer and songwriter from Holly Springs, Miss.

His grandfather, R. L. Burnside, raised and shaped Burnside into the artist he is today. It was Burnside’s grandfather who taught him to play the drums and by the time he was 13, Burnside was on tour with his grandfather’s band.

Burnside’s appearance at Art of Wine on July 20 comes during his international music tour. After enjoying his authentic rhythm and groove in the District, music fans can follow his tour to festivals like Newport Folk Festival (Newport, R.I., July 26), Calgary Folk Festival (Alberta, Canada, July 27) and Moon River Music Festival (Chattanooga, Tenn., Sept. 8)

Art of Wine is an engaging evening that marries art and wine in a relaxing atmosphere. Guests of all ages can enjoy the festival, unique stores, galleries and music for free from 5 to 10 p.m. on July 20, as there is no cost to enter the District. For adults who wish to sample wines and are 21 years of age or older (photo ID required), the cost is $20, which includes a souvenir wine glass for the first 3,900 participants. Participants can also upgrade to the VIP Prime Hour which includes early entry and unlimited wine tastings at the more than 20 participating establishments beginning at 4 p.m. for $50. The upgrade also includes, in addition to the souvenir wine glass, a plate with wine glass holder, snack box from Blu Moon Café and The Olive Mill and an insulated lunch tote. VIP Prime Hour tickets are limited to the first 100 purchased.

Cedric Burnside’s growing national fan base, rhythmic concerts and passion for music is something blues fans will want to hear.
