Several Hamilton County boys basketball teams are participating in the 15th annual Charlie Hughes Classic, which began Friday and runs through Sunday.
Games are taking place at three sites: Carmel, Hamilton Southeastern and North Central high schools. The Greyhounds have two teams (Carmel 1 and Carmel 2) participating. The Royals are also playing, along with teams with Fishers, Guerin Catholic, Hamilton Heights and University.
There are 22 pools with four teams each. Already on Friday, Fishers won two games, beating International 77-47 and Bishop Chatard 64-42. University also got up 2-0 in its pool, defeating Eastern Hancock 74-60 and Pendleton Heights 62-59. The Carmel 1 team won both of its games, taking care of New Palestine 62-40 and Evansville Bosse 51-40.
Guerin Catholic split two close games; the Golden Eagles came back from 15 points down to defeat Pike 61-60, then lost to Beech Grove 51-49. Hamilton Southeastern also split its games, falling to Silver Creek 86-70 before beating Bloomington South 71-56.
Pool play games continue at 9 a.m. today at all three sites. Hamilton Heights begins its tournament at Southeastern, taking on La Porte at 10:15 a.m. The Carmel 2 team will play Monroe Central at 12:45 p.m. at the Eric Clark Activity Center.
