August 27, 1925 – June 5, 2019
Longtime Parke County resident, Mrs. Warren (Helen J. Boyd) Graham peacefully passed away at Wesley Manor in Frankfort, Ind., on Wednesday, June 5, 2019. She was born in Vermillion County, Ind., to Ralph W. and Ruth J. (Patterson) Boyd on August 27, 1925.
Helen graduated from Montezuma High School in 1944. Helen was very active in the Happy Hours Home Economics Club, a leader in Girl Scouts, as well as serving on the Covered Bridge Girl Scout Council Board of Directors for many years. She was also very involved as a longtime member of the Rockville United Methodist Church serving in many roles over the years. She was Past Worthy Matron and a very active member of the Rockville Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, until it was dissolved.
Helen kept the books for Mike’s Plumbing Shop (family business), a homemaker and later fulfilled her longtime goal of teaching by working at the Rockville Elementary School as a Title I Teaching Assistant for many years. She loved assisting children with their reading and math skills. Retiring was very difficult for her, but she found fulfillment by continuing to assist people through the Parke Adult Tutoring Service and served on the Board of the Tri-County Literacy Program.
Helen loved being a part of the Parke County Fair, assisting with setup and adult judging of various classes. She especially enjoyed miniature flower arranging and had quite a talent for it.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, John R. Boyd, and her husband, Michael Warren Graham. A brother, David C. Boyd survives; as well as her children, Mike (Michael Ranke), Debby (Ken Simpson), Bob (Pat) and Judy (Linda Pickett); grandsons, Rob and Russ, as well as two boys she thought of as her grandsons, Garrett and Owen Welch. She cherished several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank all of the nurses, aides and staff at Wesley Manor in Frankfort for their outstanding service over the years. They have become family and we will always be grateful to them.
