The Barrington of Carmel, an SQLC senior living community, is teaming up with the Alzheimer’s Association and inviting the public to participate in its Longest Day fundraiser event on Wednesday, June 21 to raise money and awareness. The fundraiser is held annually on the summer solstice because the duration of this sunrise-to-sunset event symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with the disease. The event encourages thousands of people worldwide to do what they love and host their favorite activity, and the senior living community picked singing. They’ll be hosting a cocktail party from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with entertainment by Felix and Fingers Dueling Pianos. Attendees will enjoy cocktails, food and a live show featuring songs they love. The community’s team, The Barrington Glee Club, set a goal to raise $1,600, but hopes that with the public’s help they can exceed that. The event will bring out dozens of residents, associates, city leaders and Carmel first responders, and we’d love to have a reporter or photojournalist help us get the word out to the public in advance and attend!
This is the first year for The Barrington of Carmel to host the event. It is open to the public, but those interested in attending will need to RSVP by calling (317) 810-1822. Worldwide, 47 million people are living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, and The Barrington of Carmel wants those affected by the disease, including the community’s memory support residents, to know they are not alone. June is also Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, and The Barrington of Carmel is encouraging anyone who attends The Longest Day event to wear purple to show their support.
