Hoosier Boys State, the American Legion’s annual week-long session designed to develop leadership and understanding of the Indiana political system, begins June 16. About 500 high school juniors statewide will participate in the venture held this year on the campus of Trine University at Angola.
The 82nd annual Boys State begins June 16 with 23 Hamilton County delegates in attendance. It is one of American Legion’s major projects. Girls State, sponsored by the Legion Auxiliary, will follow the boys program.
“Students chosen to attend are those who have leadership potential, good character, scholarship, loyalty and service to their school and community,” says the Legion’s mission statement for Boys State.
The schedule includes electing state and local officials from fictional political parties following campaigning by “candidates” from among the ranks of those attending.
Besides going through the election process, participants will experience dorm life, hear outside speakers and even hold a softball tourney.
Those attending from Hamilton County are:
- From Noblesville: William Graham
- From Hamilton Heights: Price Knowles, Nicholas Smith, Aiden Ray, Luke Stohler and Luke Thesier
- From Westfield: Thomas Pugh, Mahamat Djour, Devin Hiatt and Joseph Alberta
- From Hamilton Southeastern: Theodore Houseman
- From Fishers: Cole Jorgensen, Jonah Chapple and Mustafaa Munir
- From Carmel: John Miller, Brian Gottlieb, Noah Sim, Owen Booth, Carter Highum, Deion Ziwawo, John Mikucki, Aiden Ascioti and Benjamin Spanenberg
