Hamilton Heights advanced to the semi-finals of its own softball sectional Tuesday, beating Jay County 7-1 in a first-round game.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning, when the Huskies got four runs. Meredith Diller doubled in Adyson Baber and Belle Neiling, then Kat Cox sent a double into right field to bring in Sydney Massicotte and Diller.
Hayley Greene got her own two-RBI double in the sixth inning, scoring Cox and Bayleigh Runner. Greene also hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.
Greene, Massicotte and Diller all had two hits. Baber pitched a complete-game win, tossing seven strikeouts and allowing only two hits.
The Huskies will play Delta in Thursday’s semi-finals. The Eagles beat Guerin Catholic 2-1 in eight innings in Tuesday’s second game.
The Golden Eagles scored their run in the second inning, when Alicia Flores hit a lead-off home run. Delta added a run in the third inning, then finished the game with a walk-off single in the eighth.
Flores threw 10 strikeouts in four innings, while Izzy Kemp pitched struck out eight in three and two-thirds innings of relief. Guerin Catholic finished its season 13-7.
