Sheridan held off sectional host Rossville on Tuesday to win its first-round sectional game 10-6.
The Blackhawks scored five runs in the third inning. Jayden Warren got the first run when Caitlin Neese was hit by a pitch. Sheridan then scored three runs when Allie Delph reached on an error; Addyson Ream, Taylor Bates and Neese all scored. Delph later got home on a wild pitch.
The Hornets got within 5-4 after five innings, but the ‘Hawks added another five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Emma Went tripled in Mia Brooks, then Ream smacked a double into center field to score Went, Katy Crail and Warren. Bates then singled in Ream.
Ream pitched all seven innings, tossing 15 strikeouts.
Sheridan will play Clinton Central at 7 p.m. tonight in the second game of the semi-finals. Frontier and Clinton Prairie will face off at 5 p.m. in the first semi-final.
