Annual memorial ceremonies set at county cemeteries

Veterans organizations in Hamilton County will conduct Memorial Day services at local cemeteries as is their annual custom.

Noblesville American Legion and VFW honor guards will hold a service at the Courthouse Square war memorial at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 27 followed by a ceremony at Riverside Cemetery and finally at Crownland Cemetery’s veterans memorial about noon.

Jim Martin, spokesman for the local Legion, said, “For the first time in 50 years we will not have Robert Arbuckle, Howard Kenley and Stanley Robinson in attendance.” These World War II veterans and members of the Greatest Generation passed away during the past year, Martin noted.

On Saturday the 25th, the Cicero Legion and VFW will host their annual Memorial Day Parade from the Legion post across the Morse Lake bridge to the Cicero Cemetery. A memorial ceremony will be held there shortly after 11 a.m.

Carmel Legion and VFW posts will hold cemetery services on Monday, the 27th beginning at 9 a.m. at the Hamilton Gardens Memorial Park.

The honor guard will proceed to the Westfield Veterans Memorial for a service at about 9:30 followed by a ceremony at Eagle Creek Cemetery around 10:15. Next will be a service at Farley (Blue) Cemetery at 106th Street and Keystone, and finally at Carmel Cemetery at approximately noon.

As always, members of the public are invited to attend a ceremony near them.
