Baseball roundup: Millers edge Logansport in regular-season finale

Noblesville won its regular-season finale on Saturday, beating Logansport 7-6 at Don Dunker Field.
The Millers scored three runs in the first inning. Cade Nelis singled in Andy Cleverly and DJ Owens, then Jackson Hancock got home on Brady Walden’s sacrifice fly.
The Berries tied the game in the third inning, then took a 6-3 lead in the top of the fourth. Noblesville knotted the game in the bottom of the fourth; Owens tripled in Matt Peek, then Ethan Imel hit a two-run home run, also sending Owens home.
The Millers pulled ahead in the sixth inning, as Lucas Williams scored after Imel reached on an error. Logansport got on base in the seventh inning, but a double play and a pop out ended the game.
Owens finished the game 2-for-3. Jared Crandall got the pitching win.
Noblesville finished the regular season 16-13.

Huskies fall to Frankfort

Hamilton Heights lost its regular-season finale to Frankfort 14-2 Saturday at the Huskies’ field.
Heights scored a run in the first inning, when Sam Allen got home on a passed ball. Sam Wahl also scored on a passed ball in the sixth inning.
The Huskies finished the regular season 8-13.

Trailblazers split two games against Southern Indiana teams

University split two games against Southern Indiana teams on Saturday at Linton-Stockton.
The Trailblazers overwhelmed Riverton Parke 17-5 in five innings in their first game. University scored in all five innings, and Adam Oxley ended the game in the fifth inning when he hit a three-run home run.
Dawson Estep, Tyler Galyean, Oxley, Kolton Stevens and Ben Westerkamm all had two hits, with Westerkamm getting a triple. Matt Moore pitched three innings for the win.
The ‘Blazers lost their second game to Linton-Stockton 8-3. University got on the board in the fifth inning when Alex Washlock doubled in Oxley. In the sixth inning, Galyean scored on Stevens’ RBI groundout, then Nate Shatkowski scored on Oxley’s sacrifice fly. Washlock was 4-for-4 at the plate.
University is 14-10-1 and finishes the regular season Monday at Scecina.

‘Hounds beat ‘Rocks in Carmel Invitational final

Carmel beat Westfield 3-0 in the championship game of the Carmel Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The Greyhounds scored their first run in the second inning, when Jackson Adams got home on Drew Kelley’s RBI groundout. Carmel added two more runs in the fifth inning: Jared Greene scored on Drew Olssen’s sacrifice fly, and Brayden Lentz singled in Christian Williams.
Olssen got the complete game win, striking out nine. The Shamrocks were held to three hits, one each for Zach Collins, Kyle Pepiot and Luke Hutson.
The Greyhounds are 19-7 and host Logansport on Monday. Westfield finished the regular season 13-10.

Golden Eagles edged by Brebeuf

Guerin Catholic was stunned by a four-run rally from Brebeuf Jesuit Saturday at the Circle City Conference tournament at Roncalli, which sent the Golden Eagles to a 6-5 defeat.
Guerin scored its first run in the first inning. Keenan Taylor got on base with a double and was soon singled in by Luke Godfrey. The Braves scored two in the fourth inning to lead 2-1.
The Golden Eagles jumped ahead 5-2 in the fifth inning. Nate Bingman doubled in Taylor, then was later batted in by Braden Reel. Sam Lewandowski hit a center field single to send Gavin Morrow and Bennett Ely home. But Brebeuf scored four runs in the seventh inning to win the game.
Taylor, Bingman and Godfrey each had two hits, with Bingman’s hits both doubles. Matt Parenteau pitched five innings, tossing seven strikeouts.
Guerin Catholic finished the regular season 19-6.
