Fishers picked up two big wins to start the week, and improve its record to 12-12 for the season.
On Monday, the Tigers beat defending Class 1A state champion Daleville 13-8 at home. The Broncos scored three runs in the top of the first inning. Later, Kiel Brenczewski hit a sacrifice fly to score Whetsel.
Daleville scored two runs in the third inning to take a 5-2 advantage, but the Tigers scored seven runs in the fourth inning to take the lead for good. Woolwine doubled in Kaid Muth and Dominic Oliverio to cut the lead to 5-4. Then in a wild sequence of events, Jack Braun scored on a wild pitch, Woolwine got home on an error and Brenczewski batted in Nick Lukac. Brenczewski later scored on an error, and Daniel Owens got home on a balk.
With that, Fishers led 9-5. The Broncos got within 9-8 in the fifth inning, but Fishers added four runs in the sixth. Whetsel led off with a triple, and Brenczewski singled home. Oliverio cracked a bases-loaded triple to bring in Tristan Baker, Jeffrey Simmons and Muth.
Whetsel finished the game with three hits, while Woolwine, Brenczewski and Oliverio all had two hits. Jack Minns got the win, throwing four strikeouts in one and two-thirds innings. Michael Hart got the save.
On Tuesday, the Tigers won at New Palestine 5-3. Fishers got on the board in the top of the first inning, when Brenczewski singled in Whetsel.
The Dragons got on the board in the bottom of the third inning, tying the game at 1-1. The Tigers picked up two runs in the top of the fifth with a two-RBI single from Lukac, scoring Collin Shelton and Whetsel. The score stayed 3-1 before New Pal tied the game at 3-3.
But Fishers quickly scored in the top of the eighth inning. Muth singled in Baker and Oliverio batted in Muth. The Dragons got runners on first and second in the bottom of the eighth, but the Tigers stopped any run by setting down the next three batters.
Cory Wolter got the win, pitching the final two innings. Mason Sweeney threw the first six innings, striking out four.
